Jacob Bank Rejoins Google as VP of Product for Chrome Amid Relay.app Shutdown
Jacob Bank has rejoined Google as VP of Product for Chrome, leading product and developer relations teams. His startup, Relay.app, is shutting down, with free accounts already closed and paid accounts ending on September 14, raising concerns about the viability of standalone AI workflow automation tools.

Jacob Bank will lead product and developer relations for Chrome at Google, with several of his colleagues from Relay.app also joining the team. Relay, which he founded in 2021, announced its closure on July 16, with no acquirer or successor product identified.
Free accounts were terminated on August 15, while paying customers have until September 14 to access their services. This situation underscores the challenges faced by standalone AI workflow automation companies, as many are absorbed into larger platforms. The industry may see a trend towards integrating automation capabilities directly into established products like Chrome and Workspace, complicating the landscape for independent tools.
