The exercise, overseen by the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center, involved rescuing simulated incapacitated workers while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations. Participants employed specialized equipment and techniques to improve readiness for real-world emergencies.

On December 16, 2025, Commander, Navy Region Japan (CNRJ) Fire and Emergency Services Sasebo conducted a confined space rescue drill at Sasebo Heavy Industries Dry Dock No. 2 in Sasebo, Japan. The exercise, overseen by U.S.
Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center (SRF-JRMC), aimed to enhance the integration of CFAS fire and emergency services in confined space rescue operations. Participants utilized confined space air packs for better mobility and safety while rescuing two simulated incapacitated workers.
The drill involved monitoring hazardous conditions with gas detectors and practicing techniques in a caisson, a structure that presents unique challenges for rescue operations. This annual exercise ensured compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and improved readiness for real-world emergencies.
