Coal Gas India Ltd Advances Synthetic Natural Gas Production at Paschim Bardhaman, West Bengal
Coal Gas India Ltd is advancing a Rs 13,052-crore coal gasification project in Paschim Bardhaman, West Bengal, aimed at producing synthetic natural gas (SNG) by 2030. In collaboration with Projects & Development India Ltd, CGIL has invited bids for an Air Separation Unit to support the project, which will utilize surface coal gasification technology to produce 80,000 Nm³ per hour of SNG. The joint venture includes Coal India holding a 51% stake and GAIL 49%.

Coal Gas India Ltd (CGIL) is progressing on a coal gasification project in Paschim Bardhaman, West Bengal, aimed at producing synthetic natural gas (SNG). The Rs 13,052-crore venture is set for completion by 2030, supporting India's goal to reduce dependency on imported natural gas.
CGIL, in collaboration with Projects & Development India Ltd, has invited bids for an Air Separation Unit (ASU) to be established on a Build, Own and Operate model, ensuring continuous oxygen and nitrogen supply for the project. The ASU bids are due by January 31, 2025.
The joint venture consists of Coal India holding a 51% stake and GAIL 49%. The facility will utilize surface coal gasification technology to produce 80,000 Nm³ per hour of SNG and is scheduled for commissioning in 2029-30.
