Col. Steve L. Campbell has been promoted to brigadier general and appointed chief of staff-air of the Puerto Rico Air National Guard, effective February 6, 2026, at Muñiz Air National Guard Base.

Brig. Gen. Humberto Pabón Jr. praised Campbell's leadership and experience, emphasizing the importance of his role in enhancing partnerships with First Air Force and NORAD.

Campbell's prior role was commander of the 601st Air Operations Center, managing over 400 personnel during Operation Noble Eagle. His long-standing connection to Puerto Rico includes serving as commander of the 156th Operations Group and responding to Hurricane Maria in 2017.
