Collingwood's Wastewater Treatment Plant Experiences Overflow into Georgian Bay
The Town of Collingwood is facing an overflow of untreated wastewater into Georgian Bay due to heavy rainfall, with incidents reported on April 14 and 15. Residents are advised to limit water usage as further rain is anticipated, potentially exacerbating the situation.

Collingwood's wastewater treatment plant reported a full bypass of untreated wastewater into Georgian Bay starting April 15 at 7:48 a.m., following a partial bypass that began at 6 a.m. on the same day. A previous partial bypass occurred on April 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The town has experienced similar issues in previous years, particularly in mid-April. As untreated wastewater enters the bay, it is diluted by rainwater. Residents have been urged to minimize water consumption, particularly avoiding laundry and limiting showers due to forecasted rain. The drinking water supply remains unaffected as it is processed at a separate facility.
