Columbia Gas of Virginia to Invest in Infrastructure and Environmental Projects in Tidewater Region
Columbia Gas of Virginia will invest in infrastructure and environmental projects in the Tidewater region starting in 2026, focusing on safe natural gas delivery to 290,000 customers as part of the Steps to Advance Virginia's Energy (SAVE) Plan. Planned upgrades include improvements in Chesapeake and the relocation of gas lines in Smithfield to enhance local beautification efforts. The initiative also follows a community clean-up in 2024 and a 2025 Environmental Action Grant to support local environmental projects.

In 2026, Columbia Gas of Virginia will enhance its services in the Tidewater region, focusing on safe natural gas delivery to 290,000 customers, energy management programs, and environmental stewardship. Infrastructure upgrades are planned, including improvements in Chesapeake along Weiss Lane and a relocation of gas lines in Smithfield to support local beautification efforts.
These initiatives are part of the Steps to Advance Virginia's Energy (SAVE) Plan, approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission. In 2024, Columbia Gas participated in a community clean-up with the Elizabeth River Project, removing 175 pounds of trash. The project also received a 2025 Environmental Action Grant to support local environmental initiatives.
