Commemoration Ceremony for AZAL Plane Crash Victims Held at Baku Airport
A memorial at Heydar Aliyev International Airport honored the victims of the December 25 crash of Azerbaijan Airlines flight J2-8243. Attendees included Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev, AZCON Holding CEO Shahin Babayev, and Azerbaijan Airlines President Samir Rzayev, along with families of the crew members.
Flowers were laid at the Second Alley of Honor in Baku. Prior to this, on December 20, AZAL management and relatives visited the crash site near Aktau, Kazakhstan. The Embraer 190 aircraft crashed approximately 3 km from Aktau after reportedly being attacked by Russia's Pantsir-S air defense system.
Of the 67 individuals on board, 38 died and 29 were injured, including 42 Azerbaijani citizens. Deceased crew members were posthumously awarded National Hero titles, while two survivors received the Order of 'Rashadat' for their bravery.
