Community Opposition Grows Over Amazon's Proposed Fulfillment Center in Killingly
A public hearing on Amazon's planned 1.3 million square-foot fulfillment center in Killingly has closed, with significant community opposition. The project is expected to create 500 full-time jobs and generate substantial tax revenue, but concerns over environmental impacts and public safety persist.

The Killingly Inland, Wetlands and Watercourses Commission concluded a public hearing regarding Amazon's proposed 1.3 million square-foot fulfillment center, with a decision pending until July 6. Residents expressed strong opposition, raising concerns about water system damage, fire hazards from lithium batteries, and potential environmental degradation, including the destruction of wetlands and impacts on wildlife.
Amazon's project, referred to as 'Project Husky,' aims to utilize advanced robotics for logistics and proposes donating land to create buffers for residential areas. The planning and zoning commission will continue its review process with a meeting scheduled for June 15, impacting the project's timeline.
