Conceição da Barra Mayor Erivan Tavares Orders Destruction of State's Intelligent Monitoring Modules After Accident
Erivan Tavares, the mayor of Conceição da Barra, ordered the destruction of two modules from the State's Intelligent Monitoring Program on December 23, following an accident involving a truck from his company on BR-101. The modules, managed by the State's Public Security and Social Defense Secretariat (Sesp), were located near the Itauninhas River bridge.
The incident occurred when the truck, transporting sugarcane, braked abruptly and collided with the monitoring equipment. The Sesp is investigating the destruction and will file a police report. The monitoring system, consisting of solar-powered cameras for vehicle plate recognition, was designed to enhance public safety on state roads. Local residents have reported frequent accidents in the area, prompting calls for safety measures from the municipal council.
