Controversy Surrounds LNG Terminal Operation on Rügen Until 2043
The Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) has challenged a permit allowing the operation of an LNG terminal in Mukran, Rügen, until 2043, arguing significant legal and environmental flaws exist. The permit lacks a required environmental impact assessment (UVP), raising concerns about safety and environmental risks associated with diesel engine usage.

The LNG terminal operated by Deutsche Regas in Mukran, Rügen, has faced ongoing protests from local residents and legal challenges. The recent permit modification allows operations until 2043 without land power supply, which the DUH claims violates legal standards by not undergoing an environmental impact assessment.
The DUH argues that the reliance on diesel generators presents environmental and safety risks. They demand a thorough review of the permit by the State Office for Agriculture and Environment in Vorpommern (StALU VP) and an updated UVP. With regulations from the LNG acceleration law no longer valid, the DUH maintains that a UVP is essential for the permit's legality.
