Corrib Gasfield Owners Launch Green Hydrogen Pilot with Gas Networks Ireland
The owners of the Corrib gasfield in Ireland, Nephin Energy and Vermilion Energy, are partnering with Gas Networks Ireland to pilot green hydrogen production using wind energy. This initiative aims to explore large-scale hydrogen generation as a renewable alternative to fossil fuels, leveraging existing infrastructure at the Corrib site. The collaboration aligns with the Irish government's hydrogen strategy and seeks to enhance clean energy development in Co Mayo.

Nephin Energy and Vermilion Energy, owners of Ireland's Corrib gasfield, are partnering with Gas Networks Ireland to pilot green hydrogen production. This project will utilize offshore wind energy and existing infrastructure at the Bellanaboy plant, which is connected to Gas Networks Ireland's system.
The joint venture aims to assess the feasibility of producing green hydrogen as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. The Corrib gasfield, developed at a cost of €3.5 billion, is expected to deplete in 10 to 15 years, prompting the exploration of new long-term opportunities. The initiative supports the Irish government's hydrogen strategy and is anticipated to create jobs and attract investment in Co Mayo.
