Covalent Advances Earl Grey Lithium Project with EPA Approval
Covalent Lithium's Earl Grey lithium project in Western Australia has received environmental approval from the EPA, allowing for operations expansion. This includes a processing plant duplication to increase capacity by 4.4 million tonnes per annum, which is significant for lithium supply in the region.
The Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has endorsed Covalent Lithium's proposal to expand its Earl Grey lithium project at the Mt Holland mine. This expansion will enhance lithium mining and processing capabilities, including the construction of a processing plant with a capacity of 4.4 million tonnes per annum.
The EPA's assessment emphasized the environmental impact, particularly on vulnerable species like malleefowl and chuditch, while suggesting measures to mitigate wildlife disruption during clearing activities. The EPA report is open for public appeal until May 28, 2026, with a final decision pending from the Western Australian Minister for the Environment. The project will also introduce additional waste rock landforms and infrastructure improvements, potentially exacerbating cumulative regional impacts.
