Cox's Bazar Marine Drive Expansion to Save 3,000 Trees
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has mandated that the expansion of Cox's Bazar Marine Drive proceed without tree removal, preserving around 3,000 trees. This decision is anticipated to enhance environmental conservation efforts in infrastructure development across Bangladesh.

The expansion of the approximately 80-kilometre Cox's Bazar Marine Drive will now proceed without the removal of around 3,000 trees, following an order from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The Ministry of Road Transport has revised construction plans to accommodate this directive, which includes road widening and the construction of a 305-metre bridge over Reju Canal, with a completion date set for 2026.
Environmentalists view this decision as a significant shift towards sustainable infrastructure planning, highlighting the need for early environmental considerations in development projects. The Bangladesh Army is supervising the work, which also includes planting new ornamental trees along the road. This approach could serve as a model for balancing development and ecological preservation in future projects.
