CPTech Secures US and Saudi Patents for Pyrolysis Oil Upgrading Technology for Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Clean Planet Technologies (CPTech) has obtained patents in the United States and Saudi Arabia for its pyrolysis oil upgrading process, aimed at producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from plastic waste. This process enhances the conversion of low-grade pyrolysis oils into ultra-low sulfur fuels and petrochemical feedstocks, improving stability and reducing impurities.

The technology employs fractional condensation, tailored hydrotreating, and precision distillation to create a clean product suitable for refining into SAF. With patents in key energy markets, CPTech aims to license and protect its technology for global fuel production.

The company plans to commission a pilot facility for its plastics-to-SAF program in early 2026. The UK's SAF Mandate requires SAF to constitute two percent of total jet fuel demand in 2025, increasing to 10 percent by 2030, while the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation mandates similar targets for EU member states.
