Cuango Photovoltaic Park in Angola Reaches 70% Completion Ahead of July Operation
The Cuango photovoltaic park in Lunda-Norte province is 70% complete and expected to begin operations in July. The project will electrify 9,500 homes, benefiting 40,000 people, and includes the installation of storage batteries for nighttime energy supply.
It is designed to generate 11.5 megawatts (MW) of electricity, with an additional 23 MW from stored batteries. The park will reduce diesel consumption by over 6 million liters annually, saving approximately 2.5 billion kwanzas.
Minister of Energy and Water João Baptista Borges visited the site, emphasizing the project's importance for energy stability. The project is part of the Rural Electrification Program, which aims to expand electricity access through clean sources, supporting 60 rural communities. In Lunda-Norte, 15 electrification projects have been approved, with the province currently having 76.19 MW of electricity available.
