His professional training included courses at the General Máximo Gómez FAR Academy and the National Defense College. Pérez Rivero received multiple accolades for his service, including the Ignacio Agramonte medals and was a member of the Communist Party of Cuba.
His cremated remains will be interred with honors at the FAR Pantheon in Havana. This marks another loss in Cuba's military hierarchy, raising concerns over the succession of leadership as key figures continue to pass away.
