Cyprus Civil Defense Activates Emergency Procedures Following Drone Incident Near Akrotiri
Cyprus' Civil Defense Force activated its emergency procedures after a drone incident near Akrotiri, prompted by information from the National Guard and British Bases. Formal notification at 12:30 p.m. led to immediate action, including contacting local authorities.
Although no danger to residents was reported, precautionary guidance was issued, and temporary relocation was facilitated at the Limassol Recruit Training Center. Civil Defense teams remained in the area to assist citizens. Cyprus has raised its public shelter capacity to 2,500, covering 45% of the population, and continues efforts to enhance its national early-warning system, with implementation scheduled for June.
