Cyprus Reaffirms Gas Pipeline Agreement with Egypt Amid Challenges
Cyprus asserts the validity of its gas agreement with Egypt, emphasizing adherence to international law. This commitment is crucial for regional energy security and supports the East Mediterranean's goal of becoming a key energy supplier to Europe.

The Government of Cyprus has rejected claims undermining its bilateral gas agreement with Egypt, asserting compliance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Central to this agreement is the Aphrodite subsea pipeline, designed to transport natural gas from Cyprus to Egypt’s liquefaction facilities.
This initiative is integral to enhancing regional energy security and facilitating Cyprus's access to global markets through Egypt's LNG infrastructure. The Cypriot government maintains that the legal framework for this project is sound, countering attempts to disrupt the EastMed Gas Forum’s objectives. Ongoing technical surveys and environmental assessments are on schedule, with energy flow to commence as planned, highlighting Cyprus's commitment to regional collaboration and energy integration.
