Czech Republic and South Korea Discuss Energy and Defense Cooperation, Focusing on Dukovany Nuclear Project
Czech envoy Ivan Jancarek and South Korean Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae met to discuss enhancing cooperation in energy, defense, and cultural ties, particularly focusing on the Dukovany nuclear project. Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power will supply two APR1000 reactors, marking Korea's first nuclear export to Europe, aimed at boosting the competitiveness of its nuclear industry. The discussions also highlighted potential collaboration in high-tech sectors and assessed current bilateral cooperation in nuclear, defense, and automotive fields.

Czech envoy to South Korea Ivan Jancarek and Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae discussed energy, defense, and cultural ties on Tuesday. They reviewed the recent visit by Korea's interior minister and plans to enhance cooperation in disaster response, digital governance, and the energy sector, particularly the Dukovany nuclear project.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power will supply two 1,000-megawatt APR1000 reactors for the project, marking Korea's first nuclear export to Europe and second globally. The project aims to enhance the competitiveness of Korea's nuclear industry and support sustainable energy.
Last month, Interior Minister Yun Ho-jung led a delegation to Prague, focusing on public administration, AI, cybersecurity, and energy projects. Jancarek emphasized the potential for expanded cooperation beyond nuclear energy into high-tech sectors. The Czech Embassy noted the meeting assessed current bilateral cooperation in nuclear, defense, and the automotive sector.
