DAF Chooses Companies for Microreactor Development under ANPI Initiative
The US Air Force has selected Antares Nuclear, Radiant Industries, and Westinghouse to develop microreactors, aiming for operational deployment by 2030. The initiative will enhance energy resilience for critical national security missions across various Air Force installations.

The US Department of the Air Force (DAF) has selected three firms—Antares Nuclear, Radiant Industries, and Westinghouse Government Services—to develop microreactors at specific bases. These companies were chosen from a pool of eight eligible vendors as part of the Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations (ANPI) initiative, which aims to have at least one advanced reactor operational by 2030.
The targeted bases include Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado; Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana; and Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. Each reactor design utilizes high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel, featuring outlet temperatures between 650 and 750 degrees Celsius. The evolving nature of these projects raises questions regarding their reliability for continuous power supply, critical for military operations.
