Dallas City Council Approves Increased Contract for White Rock Lake Dredging Project
The Dallas City Council has approved an increase in the engineering contract for the White Rock Lake Dredging Project to $1,372,450, following earlier adjustments for assessments and erosion control. This initiative, which aims to address sediment accumulation affecting water quality, is supported by a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and includes funding from a $20 million allocation in the 2024 bond election. The project is set to begin its design phase in March 2026, with completion anticipated by December 2028.

The Dallas City Council authorized an increase in the engineering contract for the White Rock Lake Dredging Project to $1,372,450. This funding will support detailed design, construction documents, bidding, and administration, backed by the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers and Dallas Park and Recreation. Originally approved in 2022 for $952,700, the contract was previously raised to $1,024,950 for initial assessments and erosion control solutions.
White Rock Lake has not been dredged since 1998, with sediment accumulation impacting water depth and quality. The project is also funded by a partnership agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, contributing $2 million, matched by the City up to $666,667.
In the 2024 bond election, Dallas voters allocated $20 million for dredging. The contractor will implement a recurring dredge program every five to seven years, with the design phase starting in March 2026 and completion expected by December 2028.
