DARPA's LongShot Designated as X-68A Nears First Flight Tests
The DARPA has confirmed its unmanned vehicle LongShot has been designated X-68A and is close to flight testing after achieving several technical milestones. The program, led by General Atomics, aims to develop an unmanned aircraft capable of launching from larger aircraft and attacking targets with air-to-air missiles, enhancing combat reach while keeping manned aircraft at a distance from contested areas. Flight tests are scheduled for late 2026, validating the X-68A's deployment from an F-15.

DARPA's LongShot program has been designated X-68A and is nearing its first flight tests after completing wind tunnel tests and successful recovery and weapon launch system tests. The program, led by General Atomics, aims to create an unmanned aircraft that can launch from larger aircraft, enhance air combat range, and allow manned aircraft to operate safely from a distance.
The X-68A is designed to be platform-independent, with potential integration into various military aircraft. Current ground and integration testing is preparing for flight tests planned for late 2026, which will confirm the X-68A's operational capabilities.
