Debate Over Gas Pipeline Route for Yongin Semiconductor Power Supply
Local opposition grows against a gas pipeline installation in Yongin, aimed at supplying an LNG power plant for a semiconductor cluster. Residents express safety concerns over the pipeline's proximity to schools and demand an alternative route.

Residents in Yongin are protesting against the ongoing construction of a high-pressure gas pipeline, intended to supply a 1 GW LNG power plant for the Yongin semiconductor cluster. The pipeline, which has a 765mm diameter, extends 14 kilometers through Yangji-eup, passing under four schools.
Despite alternative routing options, Yongin City and SK Innovation E&S maintain the current path is the only viable option. Local concerns center on safety risks, especially regarding potential explosions near residential areas and schools. This situation highlights a tension between infrastructure development and community safety, raising questions about government priorities in local projects.
