Defense Industry Growth in Sweden Requires Hundreds of Engineers Amidst Rising Military Demands
The defense sector in Sweden is expanding significantly, particularly in Västsverige, where the number of defense companies has more than doubled. The industry is hiring about 500 engineers monthly, fueled by increased military budgets projected to rise to 3.5% of GDP. Notable companies like GKN Aerospace and Saab are ramping up recruitment, with GKN planning to hire at least 100 engineers by 2026. Additionally, new applications in cybersecurity, autonomous systems, and maritime technology highlight the demand for skilled professionals from sectors like automotive.
