Defense Innovation Unit Seeks Prototypes for GAUSS Airborne Magnetic Navigation System
The Defense Innovation Unit has announced a solicitation for prototypes of airborne magnetic data collection platforms as part of the Geomagnetic Airborne Unmanned Survey System (GAUSS) initiative. This project aims to develop magnetic map data as an alternative to GPS for trans-oceanic navigation and will be executed in multiple phases over several years.

The Defense Innovation Unit issued a solicitation for prototype solutions for airborne magnetic data collection platforms to develop magnetic map data as an alternative to GPS for open ocean transit. This initiative, known as the Geomagnetic Airborne Unmanned Survey System (GAUSS), aims to demonstrate mature technology that enables operational magnetic navigation over trans-oceanic distances. The project will be conducted in multiple phases over several years.
