Defense Metals Launches Pilot Flotation Testing for Wicheeda Rare Earth Project
Defense Metals has initiated a pilot flotation test program at SGS Canada for the Wicheeda Rare Earth Project. This program aims to generate a representative rare earth flotation concentrate to support further metallurgical development and engineering studies.
Defense Metals Corp. has commenced a pilot flotation test program at the SGS Canada facility in Lakefield, Ontario, for its Wicheeda Rare Earth Project. The program will utilize around 30 tonnes of drill core material, representing production plans for the first six years.
The main objective is to create a flotation concentrate with approximately 50% total rare earth oxides, which will support downstream hydrometallurgical testing. SGS Canada was chosen based on their expertise, and the program will last about five weeks, starting May 12, 2026.
Additionally, Jenike & Johanson has been engaged for bulk solids handling tests to aid in engineering design. This development is significant for advancing toward the Feasibility Study and potential production, positioning Defense Metals as a key player in the North American rare earth market.
