Defense Ministry Justifies Expenses in Juansher Burchuladze Case Amid Prosecutor Allegations
The Defense Ministry defended its expenses in the case against former Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze, asserting that all costs related to a medical device purchase were justified and compliant with contractual terms. Prosecutors allege Burchuladze inflated the price of the device, resulting in a loss of 1,333,728 GEL, and further claim he engaged in questionable financial transactions to conceal the origins of funds used for property purchases in Spain.

Defense attorney Dimitri Khachidze stated that all expenses incurred by the Defense Ministry in the case against former Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze were justified. He emphasized that the contract included not only the medical equipment price but also delivery, installation, and operational costs.
Witnesses confirmed that the expenses were necessary and compliant with contractual terms. Prosecutors allege that Burchuladze abused his position in 2023 by purchasing a medical device for a military hospital at an inflated price, leading to a loss of 1,333,728 GEL.
The device was sold for 3,940,000 GEL, while its actual value was 2,606,272 GEL. Additionally, prosecutors claim that in March 2025, Burchuladze and his spouse purchased property in Spain for Euro544,000 and engaged in a fictitious transaction in Daba Tskneti to hide the funds' origin.
