Delays in Erin's Wastewater Project Risk Brook Trout Population in West Credit River

NATURAL GAS

The Coalition for the West Credit River expressed concerns over delays in Erin's Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) impacting brook trout in the West Credit River. The cooling system, essential for regulating effluent temperature to protect this sensitive species, has faced delays primarily due to natural gas service issues.

Originally set for summer 2025, the facility's completion is now expected by February 2026, with the cooling system to follow in spring. The Town of Erin has requested permission from the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) to delay the cooling system's operation, as operating without it would breach environmental compliance. The CWCR is calling for transparent communication and a commitment to install the cooling system before the facility begins operation.
