DEFENSE

Interim President Delcy Rodríguez initiated a major overhaul of Venezuela's National Armed Forces, implementing 28 changes affecting the Expanded Military High Command. Changes included leadership shifts in two Strategic Defense Regions, 12 Operational Defense Zones, six positions in the Bolivarian National Guard, three brigades, and three military academies.

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López endorsed these changes, which followed a Constitutional Chamber decision on January 3, 2026. Key changes included M/G Pablo Ernesto Lizano Colmenter replacing M/G José Gregorio Martínez Campos in REDI Los Andes and G/B Fidel Humberto Olivo Pacheco Ramírez taking over at La Carlota Air Base. Six significant adjustments were made within the National Guard, and a merger of ministries was announced, removing Alex Saab from the cabinet.
