Delivery Dates for USS Bougainville and USS Fallujah Delayed by One Year
The USS Bougainville (LHA-8) is now scheduled for delivery in July 2027, and the USS Fallujah (LHA-9) in July 2031, due to construction and labor challenges. These delays reflect ongoing workforce issues at shipyards, impacting the Navy's amphibious fleet readiness.

The delivery of the USS Bougainville (LHA-8) has been postponed to July 2027, and the USS Fallujah (LHA-9) to July 2031, as reported in the FY 2027 budget documents. The Navy cites construction performance and labor challenges as key reasons for these delays, which follow previously reported setbacks.
Ingalls Shipbuilding is adjusting its delivery sequence to prioritize LPD 30 over LHA 8, indicating an effort to manage risks associated with new technology integration. The USS Helmand Province (LHA-10) will also see its delivery pushed to September 2034 due to similar issues.
Workforce shortages, exacerbated by COVID-19 retirements, have impacted shipyard operations. The Navy's amphibious fleet currently faces readiness challenges, with a reported 46 percent readiness rate against a 50 percent requirement, prompting discussions on improvement strategies among Navy officials.
