Delta City Announces New Urgent Care Centre Amid Housing and Infrastructure Challenges
Delta City has announced the establishment of a new South Delta After Hours Urgent and Primary Care Centre, responding to community advocacy following emergency department closures at Delta Hospital. Housing remains a critical issue, highlighted by the controversial redevelopment proposal for Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall, which was ultimately rejected.
The city's small-scale multi-unit housing policy has drawn criticism from homeowners due to increased height and density regulations. Metro Vancouver mayors have requested the repeal of provincial housing targets.
Infrastructure upgrades are ongoing, with notable projects including the 72nd Avenue widening. Delta continues to urge the province to consider a second exit from Ladner in the George Massey Tunnel replacement project, with initial work expected to begin next year.
The British Columbia Utilities Commission has approved FortisBC's Tilbury LNG Storage Expansion Project, while the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has shortlisted teams for the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project. Delta also hired a new city manager and approved a 2.9% property tax increase.
