Demolition Approved for Former Bowling Alley at Cawdor Barracks, Pembrokeshire
Pembrokeshire County Council has approved the demolition of a dilapidated former bowling alley at Cawdor Barracks in Brawdy, submitted by VIVO Defence Services Ltd. The demolition will preserve the existing concrete slab as hardstanding, with no immediate redevelopment plans, while mitigation measures will be implemented to protect local bat species and nesting birds identified in a recent survey.

Pembrokeshire County Council has approved plans to demolish a former bowling alley at Cawdor Barracks in Brawdy. VIVO Defence Services Ltd submitted the application, stating the building is dilapidated and no longer in use.
The site, part of a British Army Ministry of Defence area, features a single-storey masonry structure with a metal sheet roof. The demolition will leave the existing concrete slab as hardstanding, with no immediate plans for redevelopment.
A bat survey noted the presence of common and soprano pipistrelle bats, as well as brown long-eared bats, requiring mitigation measures during demolition to protect these species and nesting birds. The council's ecologist confirmed that the proposals would maintain the populations of these species in a favorable conservation status.
