Diden Robotics Develops Climbing Robots for Shipbuilding Industry
Diden Robotics, based in South Korea, is innovating with robots designed for hazardous tasks in shipbuilding. The company aims to address labor shortages in the industry, where the average worker age exceeds 50 and younger generations are less inclined to take on these roles.

Diden Robotics is developing two robotic platforms: a climbing spider robot and a humanoid robot. The spider robot, weighing 1.8 kg, can support loads up to 200 kg and is equipped with magnetic legs for vertical mobility on metal surfaces.
It is currently used for welding and may later perform tasks like painting and non-destructive testing. The company collaborates with major shipyards, including HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries, which have begun real-world testing.
The humanoid robot, initiated seven months ago, focuses on lifting heavy loads in complex environments. The spider robot's design incorporates advanced AI for autonomous navigation through confined ship spaces, addressing the industry's high accident rates and labor shortages.
