Diehl and AEL Collaborate on Brazil's Air Defense Modernization
Diehl Defence and AEL Sistemas have formalized a memorandum to enhance Brazil's air defense capabilities. This partnership is critical for integrating local technologies and strengthening Brazil's defense manufacturing sector.

Diehl Defence and AEL Sistemas have signed a memorandum to bolster Brazil's medium- and extended-range ground-based air defense initiatives. Under this agreement, Diehl will act as the prime contractor for the IRIS-T SLM and the upcoming IRIS-T SLX systems, while AEL will incorporate local technologies such as the Link BR2 tactical data link and provide logistical support.
This collaboration aligns with Brazil's broader strategy to enhance its domestic defense industry through global partnerships. Recent initiatives include EDGE's collaboration with Indra on radar production and a separate agreement with the Brazilian Navy to enhance cyber defense capabilities. Such partnerships may lead to increased technological independence and improved defense readiness in the region.
