SOLAR ENERGY
On March 12, 2026, Gilgit-Baltistan's Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Yar Muhammad launched a digital lottery to select participants for the federal government's free solar scheme. The initiative will distribute 58 MW of solar energy, with 40 MW allocated for domestic users and 18 MW for small businesses.
This effort aims to alleviate chronic power shortages in the region. The G-B government has developed a transportation plan for 144,875 solar panels with a total capacity of 58.8 MW. The Economic Coordination Committee supports the initiative to promote alternative energy and support local economies, including agriculture and technology.
