Dioxitek Sets New Uranium Dioxide Production Record in Argentina, Ensuring Domestic Supply for Nuclear Plants
Dioxitek, Argentina's state-owned uranium dioxide producer, set a new record by producing 190 tonnes of uranium dioxide in 2025, ensuring the country's nuclear power plants can operate without imports. This achievement follows significant restructuring and process improvements at the Córdoba plant, underscoring Dioxitek's commitment to a sustainable domestic supply of nuclear fuel. The Atucha I, Atucha II, and Embalse plants collectively provide approximately 5% of Argentina's electricity.

Argentina's state-owned uranium dioxide producer, Dioxitek, achieved a record production of 190 tonnes in 2025, enabling the country to meet the uranium needs of its nuclear power plants without imports. Dioxitek, a subsidiary of the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), was established to ensure a sustainable supply of uranium dioxide and strategic radioisotopes, such as cobalt-60.
The company processes uranium concentrate, uranium dioxide scrap, and ammonium diuranate into nuclear-grade UO2 powder, which is used for fuel pellets in three nuclear plants: Atucha I, Atucha II, and Embalse. The production increase is attributed to a comprehensive restructuring and process improvements at the Córdoba plant, highlighting the commitment of Dioxitek's personnel. The Atucha plants and Embalse together contribute about 5% of Argentina's electricity.
