Diversion Authority Secures 50-50 Funding Match for Minnesota Flood Control
The Fargo-Moorhead Area Diversion project has gained approval for a 50-50 funding match from Minnesota, aiming to secure $32 million from the state legislature. This initiative is part of a larger $3.2 billion flood control effort designed to protect the Fargo-Moorhead area by redirecting floodwaters through a diversion channel.

The Fargo-Moorhead Area Diversion Authority approved a resolution to match funding from Minnesota for flood control projects, proposing a 50-50 match with soon-to-be-released federal funds. A total of $64.07 million is required for improvements on the Minnesota side, with the authority aiming to request $32 million from the state legislature.
The overall $3.2 billion project aims to mitigate flooding risks by utilizing a 22-mile embankment and a 30-mile diversion channel, projected for substantial completion by fall 2026. Funding sources include $750 million in federal funds, $850 million from North Dakota, and $1.5 billion from local taxes.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is anticipated to complete its work ahead of schedule and under budget, which may enhance funding prospects from Minnesota lawmakers.
