DMRL Transfers Steel Manufacturing Technologies to Enhance India's Naval Capabilities
The Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) in Hyderabad has transferred crucial steel manufacturing technologies to Bokaro Steel Plant, JSW Steel Ltd., Bhilai Steel Plant, and Rourkela Steel Plant. These include manufacturing processes for DMR 249A steel sheets and plates vital for naval vessel construction, promoting self-reliance in defense. Additionally, DMRL has licensed DMR-1700 steel forgings to Saarloha Advanced Materials. Meanwhile, Sagar Defence Engineering will establish an Autonomous Maritime Shipyard in Andhra Pradesh, enhancing maritime technologies and creating over 750 jobs.

These technologies ensure compliance with naval standards and support indigenous defense manufacturing. In a separate initiative, Sagar Defence Engineering is set to establish an Autonomous Maritime Shipyard in Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of Rs 45 crore, creating 750 jobs and positioning the state as a hub for maritime innovation. The project is expected to commence operations by November 2026.
