DOD Announces $1.4B Research Contract Recompete for Emerging Technologies
The DOD is launching a recompete for the RETS contract, focusing on prototyping and AI, hypersonics, and electronic warfare expertise. This initiative aims to enhance collaboration with defense contractors over the next five-and-a-half years, with a contract ceiling of $1.4 billion.

The Department of Defense (DOD) is initiating a recompete for its Research, Development, Test, Evaluation, Engineering and Technical Services (RETS) contract, with a total ceiling of $1.4 billion over five-and-a-half years. The DOD is prioritizing prototyping and experimentation, seeking industry expertise in AI, hypersonics, and electronic warfare.
The draft proposal outlines responsibilities for awardees, including technical assessments and roadmap development for prototype projects. Since 2020, approximately $458 million has been obligated against the previous contract, with American Systems receiving 64% of this funding. The focus on initial prototypes may lead to innovative solutions but entails risks related to project execution and integration within existing defense systems.
