DOD-Backed Program Enhances Workforce Skills for Manufacturing Sector
LIFT's Operation Next program, supported by the Department of Defense, has certified 40 adult learners in advanced manufacturing, addressing workforce shortages in the industry. This initiative aims to modernize the manufacturing workforce and improve the talent pipeline essential for the U.S. military's defense capabilities.

Operation Next, a workforce development initiative backed by the Department of Defense, certified 40 individuals in advanced manufacturing skills through a partnership with Southeastern Community College. Since its inception in 2018, the program has evolved to include military families, veterans, and civilians, providing industry-recognized credentials.
The effort aligns with the Pentagon's strategy to strengthen the Defense Industrial Base by modernizing facilities and addressing labor shortages. LIFT emphasizes the need to improve perceptions of manufacturing careers to attract younger generations, who often lack hands-on experience. As companies grapple with recruitment challenges, collaboration with various educational partners remains crucial to fulfilling workforce demands in advanced manufacturing.
