DoD Establishes Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations Center to Enhance Coordination

The Department of Defense is implementing a new strategy to achieve electromagnetic spectrum superiority, which includes the establishment of the Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations Center (JEC) at Strategic Command. This center will have expanded authorities to evaluate and certify joint operations readiness.

Oversight of the electromagnetic spectrum strategy will transfer to the DoD chief information officer in the fall, ensuring a coordinated approach to technology procurement and operational alignment. The plan emphasizes prioritization of investments and capability development to address gaps and enhance synchronization across services.

Congressional pressure has been noted regarding the pace of modernization efforts in this area, highlighting the need for faster implementation to maintain operational effectiveness against adversaries. The first 90 days of the implementation will involve assessments and planning by military components to address identified tasks.
