Canadian defense startup Dominion Dynamics has raised $21 million in venture capital, aiming to establish itself as a primary contractor for the Canadian military, competing with firms like Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. Founded by Eliot Pence, a former executive at Anduril, Dominion plans to develop a suite of sensors and communication tools for Arctic operations, starting with its AuraNet system.
The funding comes from Georgian Partners and other investors, and will enable the company to expand its workforce and open a manufacturing facility in Ottawa. Dominion aims to secure government contracts by providing technology to military personnel in the North for free initially, gathering feedback for improvements. The company is preparing for upcoming trials, including deployments during Operation Nanook and collaborations with the Canadian Navy on new sensor technologies.
