DOST Launches Biodiesel Reactor for Used Cooking Oil Conversion
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has introduced a Biodiesel Reactor to convert used cooking oil into commercial fuel. This initiative aims to provide an eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuels while addressing waste disposal issues.

The DOST's Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) has launched a Biodiesel Reactor capable of producing 800 liters of biodiesel per batch by blending used cooking oil with methanol and catalysts. The biodiesel generated is expected to serve the fisheries and agriculture sectors, powering various diesel-fed equipment.
DOST-ITDI is currently collaborating with local government units to streamline the collection of used oil, enhancing domestic fuel supply amidst fluctuating oil prices. The initiative aligns with regional efforts, as the Philippines seeks to adopt sustainable fuel practices similar to Indonesia's biodiesel usage.
