Towngas Advocates for Green Methanol in Hong Kong's Five-Year Plan
Towngas has urged the Hong Kong government to enhance green methanol bunkering capabilities as part of the 2026-2030 Five-Year Plan. The recommendations aim to position Hong Kong as a leader in low-carbon shipping and green finance.

The Hong Kong and China Gas Company (Towngas) has recommended improvements to port facilities for green methanol bunkering in its submission to the Hong Kong government's Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). The proposal includes accelerating the commercialization of green methanol and establishing an internationally aligned certification system for green fuels.
Additionally, Towngas suggests creating a trading mechanism for green commodities and expanding financial instruments like green infrastructure REITs. These initiatives aim to align with China's 15th Five-Year Plan and bolster Hong Kong's role in green finance and sustainable development. The push for low-carbon shipping could enhance the city's competitive advantage in the international market.
