DRDO Launches Advanced Armoured Platforms for Indian Army BMP Replacement
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has introduced Advanced Armoured Platforms to replace the BMP-2K infantry vehicles. Designed in collaboration with Tata Advanced Systems and Bharat Forge, these platforms feature amphibious capabilities and are tailored for diverse terrains including deserts and high-altitude areas.

The DRDO has unveiled Advanced Armoured Platforms, including tracked and wheeled variants, aimed at replacing the Indian Army's BMP-2K Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs). Designed for various terrains, these platforms feature a 30mm crewless turret, a 7.62mm machine gun, and anti-tank guided missile capabilities.
Currently, the Indian Army requires over 3,500 vehicles, with procurement planned for 2,000 to 2,200 units as part of its Future Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV) program. The platforms incorporate high-power engines, amphibious capabilities, and STANAG Level 4 and 5 protection.
Indigenous content is at 65%, with a target of 90%. The introduction of these vehicles could influence future procurement decisions, particularly concerning foreign models lacking amphibious capabilities.
