Drone Attack on Metafrax Chemicals in Russia's Perm Region
Drones targeted Metafrax Chemicals, a key methanol and urea producer located over 1,600 km from Ukraine. The incident raises concerns about the security of chemical facilities linked to the defense industry.

On May 23, drones attacked Metafrax Chemicals in Gubakha, Perm region, a major producer of methanol and urea. The plant is significant for its production of materials used in explosives, particularly ammonium-nitrate mixtures.
Metafrax's parent company, Roskhim, is identified as a supplier to Russian military enterprises despite the plant's lack of official ties to the defense sector. Concurrently, a fire occurred at the Irgiredmet research center in Irkutsk, which focuses on technologies for extracting and processing precious metals. This incident highlights potential vulnerabilities in the Russian chemical industry and its implications for military supply chains.
