DSTA and Korean Register Sign MOU to Develop Verification Framework for Autonomous Marine Systems
Singapore's Defense Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and the Korean Register (KR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a verification and validation framework for Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs). This collaboration will leverage DSTA's systems engineering expertise and KR's maritime safety standards to evaluate AI-based perception algorithms and promote international standardization in autonomous maritime systems. The initiative aims to enhance KR's role in maritime AI certification and influence global standards for autonomous shipping technologies.

Singapore's Defense Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and the Korean Register (KR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to co-develop a framework for verification and validation (V&V) of technologies used in Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs). The collaboration combines DSTA's systems engineering expertise with KR's maritime policy and safety standards.
They will create a V&V framework to evaluate AI-based perception algorithms and ensure safe USV operations. The partnership aims to promote international standardization of safety verification frameworks for autonomous maritime systems. KR intends to enhance its role in maritime AI certification and influence global standards for autonomous ship technologies through this initiative.
