Duck Mayor Criticizes USACE for Terminating Long-Term Lease Negotiations for Public Safety Facility
Duck Mayor Monica Thibodeau expressed frustration over the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' decision to end eight years of negotiations for a long-term lease on property housing the Town's public safety departments. The lease expiration in five years may require the Town to vacate the property. The Town has spent $115,000 on lease efforts and is engaging with federal leadership to seek solutions while planning a new public safety facility.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has terminated eight years of negotiations for a long-term lease on property that houses Duck's public safety departments. The Town of Duck will need to vacate the property in five years unless a resolution is found.
Mayor Monica Thibodeau highlighted that the Town has already invested $115,000 in securing the lease and is reaching out to federal leadership for assistance. The current facility, operational since 1982, does not meet modern standards and supports over 30 personnel. The Town is also working with Dills Architects to assess space needs and design a new facility.
