Duke Energy Plans 1,400-Megawatt Natural Gas Plant in South Carolina Amid Community Concerns
Duke Energy plans to build its largest natural gas power plant, a 1,400-megawatt facility in Anderson County, South Carolina, to address increasing energy demands. The project is expected to cover 200 acres and create around 32 jobs, generating $1.3 billion in GDP.
Although the Anderson County Council supports the initiative for economic reasons, residents are worried about air quality and health impacts, particularly for children and the elderly. The facility will use advanced emissions control technology and a closed-system air-cooled condenser to minimize water usage. Approval from the Anderson County Council and the South Carolina Public Service Commission is required to proceed.
