Dushanbe Initiates $10 Million Water Resilience Project Against Climate Risks
Dushanbe is set to implement a $10 million project aimed at modernizing its water supply system to combat climate change impacts, including floods and heat. The initiative features advanced water management technologies and Nature Based Solutions to enhance water quality and urban ecosystems.

The Dushanbe Water Resilience Project, exceeding $10 million, will modernize the Kofarnihon River intake to enhance water supply resilience and quality. It includes the introduction of a SCADA system for real-time monitoring and green corridors to mitigate flood risks and reduce urban temperatures.
A seminar held on April 29, 2026, presented the project, supported by the Asian Development Bank, focusing on its adaptation strategies for climate change. The project aims to ensure a stable water supply amid climate variations, with a master plan to manage future challenges, including a predicted temperature rise of 5.5°C by 2090 in Tajikistan. These enhancements will benefit residents through improved health and reduced contamination risk.
